FAQ

Check out my most frequently asked questions below. If you have any other questions not listed here, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with me to get them answered.

General

What can I expect?

Expect to have fun in a relaxed and friendly environment. Expect to take things at your own pace, and understand why and how exercises are achieved. Expect variety from class to class, and also a full body workout no matter what style of Moxie class you choose.

Do I need to have previous experience?

Absolutely not. Classes are designed to be suitable for all experience levels, and beginners are totally welcome - you’ve got to start somewhere!

Do I need to be fit?

NO! All classes are designed to suit all fitness levels. That is the beauty of Pilates and barre methods, it is very easy to modify exercises to make them easier or harder.

Do I need to be flexible?

No. We all have different histories with our bodies and the goal in Moxie Pilates classes is to honour that history. So if you can’t touch your toes, just bend your knees a bit to help, or touch your calves instead. The destination isn’t as important as the journey to get there.

Do I need dance experience for the Barre class?

No! I’m not a dancer myself. I bring both my love of Pilates and of moving to music along to each class, but I am not a trained dancer. I am a trained Pilates and certified Barre instructor. It is not a prerequisite!

How often should I attend classes to see results?

Clients can see and feel results in as little as 8 - 10 lessons. Greater results are achieved by attending classes more frequently per week, and more continuously week by week. So if you want to see a significant increase in strength, flexibly and tone, then why not opt for two classes per week, or even unlimited?

How big are the classes?

Class sizes are kept small, with a maximum of 8 people in Barre at Believe Dance Studio, and a maximum of 12 people for all other classes.

How can I book a class?

Just get in touch or go to my booking page.

On the booking page you will see options to book individual classes or purchase a package. Packages are where you can buy a term pass or Flexi pass. Once you purchase a package you will be give a coupon code to book in the class. When you go into to book the class you can select reoccurring and book in to that class for the term. You will need to fill in the intake form to book the class. Once you have booked in your selection you can then select to register your account which I recommend doing so that your intake form stays populated on the system, otherwise you will need to fill it in again. If you just want to purchase a single class you can do that through the categories, select your class and away you go.

Please note packages have to be paid for online an Acuity thing not a Moxie thing, so if this is not convenient have a chat and we can make another arrangement.

How do I pay for classes?

You can pay online via Stripe through the booking page or for individual class bookings, vouchers and socks you can pay via cash or direct debit to the bank account. Get in touch for more information.

What do I wear to class?

Wear stretchy comfortable clothing that allows you to move. No shoes in class, although grippy socks are recommended (but not compulsory). Shashi Non-slip sparkly socks are available for purchase before or after class, or contact me for pricing and size/colour availability.

What should I bring?

Bring a yoga/Pilates mat, and water. If you don’t have a mat, bring a large towel. We always have a couple of spare mats you can borrow based on first come, first receive. All other equipment required for a great workout is provided for you. If you prefer to use your own props, like flex bands, these are available for purchase. If it is your first class, please arrive a few minutes early so we can discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

Where are you located?

Classes are located in East Auckland and are run out of the Howick Children’s and Youth Theatre building in Howick, which is the old Star of the Sea School (29 Granger Road). See the Locations maps on the Contact page to view and get directions.

Hop, skip and a jump from Pakuranga, Botany, Flatbush, Eastern Beaches, Whitford and even Beachlands.

Is there parking?

There is onsite parking at both venues. If this is ever full then there is also parking on the street.

Pregnant or New Mum

I am pregnant, are these classes suitable for me?

These classes are not specifically designed with pregnancy in mind, so depending on what stage you are at modifications will need to be made and/or things excluded. This is definitely possible as I am prenatally trained, however our sister company BumpYoga offers pregnancy specific classes tailored specifically for your needs during pregnancy. Also, pregnancy specific classes are a great way to meet other soon-to-be-mums in the community.

I am newly postnatal, are these classes suitable for me?

Any of our classes are great postnatally once you have been cleared for exercise from your LMC. Some modifications will be required depending on your labour and recovery, so just have a chat and I will make sure everything is safe and modified appropriately.

Mums and Little Ones Classes

Can I bring my child with me to classes?

Children are most definitely welcome! Mums + Little Ones classes are specifically designed for mums to bring their little ones along, and any age child is welcome to come along to these classes. Depending on class sizes, children are also welcome at some of the mat classes, so just get in touch and have a chat.

My little one is on the move, can we still attend classes?

Yes, the Mums + Little Ones class is a contained space so you can exercise while they play around the room. Any age little one is welcome to attend with you - you can even bring your whole crew.

What should I bring to Mums + Little Ones classes?

Same as above plus anything your little one needs. There is plenty of space in the room so feel free to bring your pram (the room is accessible by wheelchair ramp), capsule, and anything else you need. If your little one isn’t on the move, bringing a blanket for them to lie down on and play is ideal. Feel free to bring toys for your little one, but please know that these will get shared amongst the other little ones.

What should I expect in the Mums + Little Ones classes?

Expect to get a workout regardless of occasionally getting interrupted. Most exercises we do are repeated three times, so you are bound to be able to do at least one set. The important thing is that you’ve set that time aside for you, so on the odd day when things don’t go as planned, you are still showing your little one that you are carving out time for you, which is so important.

What if my little one is unsettled in the Mums + Little Ones classes?

It isn’t a problem! These classes are full of mums who have been there before. This is a friendly, welcoming and non-judgemental space so if your baby is unsettled, remember it will bother you more than it bothers anyone else! You can stop at any stage to feed, change and settle them, or include them in your workout. There’s a room full of people who will give you a hand, or you can even hand your mini me over to me for a bit (if they will come).
